Still exhibition 2015
As visitors entered the gallery, they were greeted by a display case enclosing live cocoons/caterpillars.
The Saunders case moth lives inside its cocoon for up to 2 years, coming out to eat and moving around the cabinet with the cocoon on its’ back. Resin replicas and reflective illusions trick the eye…
are they real, reflected and really still alive?
Tracks left on the inside of the glass show where live caterpillars coexist with their resin replicas.
An image of the Chytrid Fungus in a specimen dish, underneath a snow dome, symbolically threaten their existence.
